Viborg Municipality offers different day care options. All children have the right to a day care place from the age of 24 weeks and until they start school.
The cost of the day care option you choose is charged on a monthly basis. If you have more than one child in day care, you qualify for a discount. Read more about tariffs here or contact Viborg Municipality for more detailed information.
Viborg Municipality offers the following day care options:
Child Minder/Day Carer (Dagpleje)
For children between 24 weeks to 2 years and 11 months. Together with typically 3 other children, your child will be looked after by a child minder in his/her own home. The child minder is approved by, registered with and employed by Viborg Municipality.
Day Nursery (Vuggestue)
For children between 24 weeks and 2 years and 11 months. The nursery is staffed by qualified kindergarten teachers and assistant kindergarten teachers.
International Kindergarten Group at Bulderby
January 1st 2018 The International Kindergarten Group at Bulderby daycare center opens. It merges Danish cultural and educational values with English-language skills for international families residing in Viborg Municipality.
The Kindergarten group is designed for children who are expected to continue their schooling at an English-language school, either in Denmark or abroad.

For children between 3 and 6 years (or when they start school). Kindergartens are staffed by qualified kindergarten teachers and assistant kindergarten teachers.

Nord / North (Møldrup, Skals, Løgstrup and Viborg North)
Øst / East (Houlkær, Overlund, Møllehøj, Ørum, Hammershøj and Sødal)

Sydvest / South West (Karup, Frederiks, Hald Ege and Viborg South)

Care for School Children
Morning and After-School Care (SFO)
Viborg Municipality offers a morning and after-school care scheme (SFO) for all pupils attending 0 to 3rd grade at one of Viborg Municipality’s primary and lower secondary schools. Viborg Municipality’s schools have an SFO where the children can play with their friends, do their homework or take part in various indoor and outdoor activities.
After School Clubs (SFO-klubber and fritidsklubber)
Viborg Municipality offers after school clubs for pupils attending 4th to 7th grade at one of the Municipality’s primary and lower secondary schools.
‘SFO-klubber’ are located the primary and lower secondary schools like the SFOs are whereas ‘fritidsklubber’ are not.
Like day care and SFOs, parents must pay a tariff if they wish their child to attend an after school club.
